Rich narrative in Kid Wise's music video "Hope"

Kid Wise's "Hope," directed by Truman & Cooper captures the thrills, chills, and irrationality of adolescence. The music video focuses on a group of young adults who spend their lust-filled days binge drinking, harassing cattle, dancing erratically, and swimming in their underwear. Though the kids, who appear no older than 20, seem mostly harmless their carefree and reckless attitudes slip in to frequent bursts of brutality--the effects of which are most closely examined in the the lead role, a nameless boy expertly played by Fred Hotier. Hotier's character is lost and frustrated. Though her participates in the violent actions of his peers, the boy seems to experience a few glimpses of hope beyond the chaos of his small gang. Fueled by young infatuation and displaced affection, the boy eventually oversteps his bounds and thus falls beneath the fists of his own friends. Yet for the Hotier's character, the beating signifies a ceremonial severance of companionship with his previous group--and therefor a glimmer of hope--as he transcends adolescence and likely sheathes his violent past for a more fulfilling future.
