I could not pass up an opportunity to post about The Metamorphosis, a classic work of literature now turned performance. Based off of the Franz Kafka novella, Arthur Pita brings the classic tale of Gregor Samsa to the theater in his play of the same title. The Metamorphosis depicts the life of a disenchanted business man who, one day, wakes up to find he has transformed in to an ambiguous vermin. Samsa, portrayed by dancer Edward Watson, finds himself dejected by his family as they struggle to accept his new condition and his own conscious as he comes to accept and simultaneously despise his new form. Through talented choreography, Watson expertly contorts in to a grotesque creature (see photo above). The play, produced by London's Royal Ballet, played in Manhattan at the Joyce Theater through September 29th. If you missed it (like I did) you can check out more information on the play and possible future productions of The Metamorphosis on the Royal Ballet website here.

Cool use of filth to better signify change to the filthy vermin on the directors part.
ReplyDeleteAlso a suggestion: When I click on a picture on the front page I usually only get a new tab with the photo I clicked on, which is handy but could be more so if it were a direct link to the article you've written. Just a thought.
You're doing great Grace!
Thank you for the feedback Planter!
