Normally repetition is dull. An image conveyed over and over again is monotonous and often warrants only seconds of attention before it is forgotten. However that is not the case with Neil Raitt's work. Raitt's paintings focus on one natural subject--whether that be mountains or trees--and echo its image continuously on the canvas. The result is a surprisingly attractive and awe-inspiring work of art. Each repeated form appears to be an exact duplicate of it's neighbor, yet one's eye catches the human errors in line or color and that is what makes Raitt's work interesting. The slip ups remind a viewer of the craft behind such elaborate paintings and, as a result, at as an creative signature for the artist himself.
