Flowers Gone Ablaze

Artist Mat Collishaw brings to mind fragility and mortality in his 2004 series, "Burning Flowers." The artist photographed bouquets of roses charring at the tips of their petals, engulfed in flames of blue and red. As flowers have long since represented beauty and fragility the unceremonious burning of these plants suggests the power of destruction, or perhaps serves as a reminder of indefinite cessation.
