Due to demands from school/work/life in general I have not had time to update the blog in over two years now. Though I loved posting about art and interacting with the OH! community, it is no longer feasible for me to continue posting. The site will remain up, so you can always browse the archives.

It's been real, ya'll.

Adding movement to photography through cinemagraphs

I love the idea of photography paired with moving image. It seems a step in the right direction; a new medium that has yet to be fully explored yet holds immense potential. Previously on OH!, I featured Jean Yves Lemoigne, who created an entire series of moving image portraits (previously featured here). Recently, I stumbled upon photographer Jon Jacobsen, who creates engaging cinemagraphs. Though many of his cinemagraphs feature carefully posed fashion models, his fine art photographs (above) offer an inventive approach to digital image.

Earning "Unsolicited Advice" on the streets and in your planner

When I first stumbled upon gifs of Adam J. Kurtz holding a notepad printed with unsolicited advice (above)--things like, "Have a glass of water" and "Call your fucking parents"--I thought, "Wow, this is a great performance piece." Yet it turns out Kurtz brief stunt was not simply a humorous art project, but a promotion for his Kickstarter campaign. Kurtz hoped to create "Unsolicited Advice" Weekly Planner & Journal for 2014 and by November 15 of this year, his project was successfully funded. If interested, you can purchase Kutz's planner here. John Grade's massive installations

John Grade creates commanding sculptures and installations. Though the photographs of his work depict the sheer enormity of his sculptures, I imagine a mere picture does not do his art justice. His exceptional use of texture, as well as size, must be an awe-inspiring experience when viewed in person.

Knolling collectors with thier collections

There's something about knolling that is simply irresistible. Honestly, who doesn't love things organized neatly? Recently, photographer Emily Blincoe has become the queen of knoll. Honestly, her work is always on my Tumblr dash so I figured it was about time I shared her series, "The Collection Collection" which features women and their collected objects elegantly arranged on rustic backdrops.

Mirror House on Scottish seashore

I am ashamed to say I have never heard of German artist Ekkehard Altenburger--the sculptor has been producing work since the mid-1990s. His site-specific, public installations are truly beautiful, particularly Mirror House (pictured above). Installed in 1996 on the Isle of Tyree, Scotland, the home served as a temporary waterside installation. Though the structure no longer stands, Altenburger sells prints of his beautiful sculpture online. He is truly an artist to keep an eye on the coming years.

Finding depth and texture in digital painting

Often drawings become flat, if not muddled, when created in a digital medium. Yet artist Sergey Kritskiy manages to achieve great depth in her illustrations for Russian publication, Snob Magazine. Kritskiy's use of texture and stroke give her drawings a unique texture most often observed in traditional medium paintings. However, the artist is able to manipulate digital media in such a way that her work boasts both grand dimension and expressive strokes. Truly impressive.
