Jon Sours hazy brush strokes and ethereal imagery call to mind the paintings of the late Francis Bacon. Indistinct shapes and tenuous figures--as hazy as Bacon's Study of a Dog--give the artist's work a much needed ambiguity. Unlike his artistic predecessor, however, Sours does not rely on themes of horror in his artwork. Instead, the uncertainty of his subject matter--wide eyed females--combined with a limited color palette and subtle abstractions invite viewers to linger over his work and truly absorb his enamoring artistic techniques and obscure conceptual decisions.
