The Visual Jokes of Derek Paule Boyle

Derek Paule Boyle has that sense of humor that many won't pick up, but those who do share the pleasure of getting "the joke." By juxtaposing every day objects in urban areas, Boyle makes the familiar punny, obscure, and at times ironic. It's like photography for the ultimate hipster--though I kid, his work is far deeper than that. On his website, Boyle explains, “I am interested in the power of contradiction, objects as events, and incompatible states of the self – what was once bound is made free, the known made unknown. In a wavering step between angst and serenity, fear and pleasure, I want to give form to anxiety, a shape to tension.”
