Enormous Sand Castle Appears in Manhattan |
Giant sand castles are my weakness. If I see anything even remotely sand castle/sand sculpture related, I am instantly engrossed by the meticulous works of art. Sand is structurally unsound and, to say the least, iffy. If it's too wet, it smushed, if it's too dry, it crumbles. It is beyond me how any artist is able to make anything remotely beautiful with such a fussy material, however Matt Long can apparently do just that. He created a sandcastle measuring 18 feet in downtown Manhattan's financial district. The structure featured everything one could imagine, from brick detail to towers to immense staircase to turrets and drawbridges. The work was created as part of a campaign to bring fun--and free--events to tourists and New York natives. They are absolutely stunning.
