British Birds Caught in the Fold

Francisca Prieto folds paper. And not "folds paper" as in makes envelopes, or creates origami, or constructs paper airplanes. No, Francisca Prieto folds paper to create mathematical works of installation art. And she doesn't just use any paper. Prieto finds old books of intrigue and uses every last piece of bound paper to create a work of art. Her latest series, "Between Folds / British Birds" is a study of a single composition in which two geometric shapes overlap. Using A History of British Birds: Volume II by Rev. F.O. Morris, the artist arranges hand colored wood engravings and printed paper in a delicate balancing act.
