40 Days of Dating

Two friends, Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman, found themselves single at the same time, facing opposite relationship problems. Goodman, a commitment-phobe, was known for dating multiple women at one time. Walsh, on the other hand, was a hopeless romantic, quick to jump in to a relationship. It's been said that it takes 40 days to break a bad habit, and so the two friends decided to date for 40 days in an attempt to improve their personal dating faux-pas. The experiment has quickly manifested in to a kind of social test or artistic performance piece as the two create honest commentary about their own experiences. As designers, both participants frequently create works to express their feelings and illustrate their dates. For instance, the two illustrate their relationship history and Walsh, reminded of her parents relationship when at a Knicks game with Goodman, constructed a diagram of a "give-and-take point system" to illustrate how her parents keep their lives in balance (see below). Updates on how the 40 Days of Dating experiment manifested are posted daily on Forty Days of Dating until August 18th, 2013.
