We've all owned one of those cheap company calendars. You know, the one's for banks you get rolled up in the mail, or the flimsy blank agendas with a company logo printed on every page, in the free pile at grocery stores. The point of these banal pieces of merchandizing is to get us, the consumers, to familiarize ourselves with a company and expose ourselves to them daily. In retrospect it seems like a great idea, but who really cares about company calendars, right? No one. Except for when it comes to Hälssen & Lyon. The German tea company created an innovative design to advertise their product without adhering to the ubiquitous paper calendar marketing scheme. Their calendar is created from processed, compressed tea leaves. The leaves are sliced in to thin squares, stamped with a date, and hung in a straight row. With each passing day, a tea page can be peeled off of the calendar and dropped in to a mug of hot water, becoming a tasty brew. That way you can literally drink the day away (get it?). And the best part? Each day of the year is comprised of a different blend of ingredients, so you'll sip a new flavor daily. Cool, right? Unfortunately, this genius time keeper is only available to the company and select business partners, meaning its not for sale. Nonetheless, it's refreshing to see the production of such a clever design. Hopefully in the future, with enough consumer demand, Hälssen & Lyon will make their tea calendar open for public purchases. And who knows, maybe other companies will catch on to this unique idea and start producing their own tea calendars? Who wouldn't prefer 365 cups of tea over a flimsy paper agenda?
