When I first came across Human Printer I thought, "That sounds so hard, why would anyone want to do this?" But after investigating their work, I now truly appreciate the project. The group is made up of over 20 people. According to their website, The Human Printer is, "Unlike any other printer…[it] creates unique, individual images each time it prints. Following the same process as a digital printer, the human printer generates the printed product by hand. Throughout the printing process the human printer assumes the role of the machine and is therefore controlled and restricted by the process of using CMYK halftones created on the computer." It's fascinating that human beings possess the skill to emulate machines, even though we developed such contraptions to do the work for us. It takes a remarkable amount of energy and patience to hand make a "print copy"--and with such precision too! If anything, The Human Printer project makes for wonderful images and attests to the true patience of artists. To see a print being made, click below and watch the video.
