AWOLNATION's music video for their single, "Kill Your Heroes," is a perfect blend of satire and dark humor. The video, directed by Cameron Duddy, starts off like a scene from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.* Three children watch a TV program in their living room. Aaron Burno, the band's lead singer, introduces his music video to the kids, and in an instant he and his band are seen dressed as 1950s milk men, singing lyrics like, "I say you kill your heroes and fly fly baby don't cry" and "No need to worry cause everybody will die." The kids go ballistic. It may just be the nostalgic content that this video draws its ideas from, or the juxtaposition formed by the campy visuals and the dark lyrics, but by the time this video ends--whether you enjoyed the music or not--you can't help but love this farcical music video.
*For those of you too young to remember Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, it was an American children's show that aired from 1968-2001 and it was amazing. Watch the show's classic intro (over the years) here.
