Joseph Parra is a print-based artist. He creates screen prints of human figures and
faces, distinctly transformed by abnormal marks, folds of paper, and various
textures. For Parra, the edits of the figure in his work are to take the
traditional subject matter to another level. He states on his website, “For the
figure to become more than a combination of forms, one must dive deeper and
reveal something that is otherwise unseen. In challenging conventional
portraiture, I expel the physical features of an appropriated individual and
expose layers to reflect the varied constructions of what it is to be human.”
