The
Luminous Earth Grid is an outdoor art installation by Stuart Williams. He took
1,680 energy-efficient fluorescent lamps and swept them across an area equal to
8 football fields. Over 200 people helped install the project, including six
electricians. The piece was visited by more than 10,000 individuals. Williams
stated, “The glowing green grid can be seen as an icon of
computer imaging technology, which in this ‘real life,’ incarnation, gently
melds with the flowing shape of a lovely landscape... a dream-like vision of
symbiotic unity.” To learn more about the process and see progress photographs, check out the project here.
