Bryan M. Ferguson is a photographer and filmmaker
based in Scotland. The subject of most of his photography seems to be ambiguous,
creating a curious underlying narrative in much of his work. However, upon
first glance it is often not the subject matter that is most apparent, but the
main photographic elements, particularly the acute attention to light and color.
Often, Ferguson seems to work in monochromatic color schemes, ultimately using
light and shadow to emphasize certain subject matter. Occasionally, he is more
prone to use dichromatic color schemes, pitting two colors—usually
contrasting—against one another to create enigmatic compositions. Even Ferguson’s
colored or black and white photography hint towards his remarkable
understanding of light-and-color relationships. His work reverberates
simplicity, elegance, and a bit of mystery.
